Short Story: Kimberly Cried When The Aliens Came

By Leonard Treman

Kimberly sat at the corner of the playground crying. The last time she’d shed a tear was when the aliens invaded. That was when she lost her parents. It was to be ok though. She’d been adopted by French nobles who were among the only survivors of the human species.

The French surrendered at the first sign of an interstellar fight. Fighting was a bit too rough for them. The French governments surrender was met with laughter at the United Nations but as it turned out it was the only hope humanity had for survival.

Kimberly was rescued from the flood that separated her from her parents and landed her right into an alien military camp. They took pity on her and spared her. It was because of this that she was the sole surviving American. This is part of the reason why the French nobles adopted her following the eradication of the non-yielding human species.

As it turned out the aliens put an end to all wars and had a utopian government. The surviving humans were blessed with eternal bliss due to endorphin enhancement machines, in addition to technological advances across the board. The agriculture assured no hunger. The military ensured no wars. The educational system ensured that people would make good pets.

Kimberly cried for the first time as the little alien boy took her doll. His mother scowled and scolded him, “Pets have feelings too and should be treated with dignity.” The boy apologized to his mother and offered to play with the human to make it feel better. His mother smiled and the boy and his pet human played together in an endless day of fun.
